Salmon Parks short films featured at recent Reel Causes events

Two short films documenting the origins and journey of Salmon Parks were screened in Vancouver and Victoria at the “Swimming Upstream” events in late September 2026.

The Salmon Parks Stewardship Society collaborated with Reel Causes and Canadian Parks and Wilderness – BC Chapter (CPAWS-BC) to deliver these engaging and impactful film events.

The first Salmon Parks film (2021) was directed by Carter Kirilenko and produced by CPAWS-BC. The original film explores restoration efforts of the Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nationand the Nuchalaht First Nation to recover and restore key wild salmon watersheds in their hahuułi (chiefly territories).

Three partner organizations, two local events and one resounding message from the films, panelists and event attendees: “We need to do more Indigenous-led conservation and stewardship, and we need to do it now!”
